The beautiful Capitol Theatre is one of Sydney’s premier commercial theatres. Located at 3 to 15 Campbell Street, Central Business District, Sydney, NSW, it has been a home for recreation and entertainment in Sydney since the 19th century. It is lauded as a historic building. They pride themselves on being ‘Australian family owned and operated’.
The historic Capitol Theatre has played host to several world-class ballets, theatre, musicals, concerts and performances over the years. This includes some of the biggest musical productions and plays that Australia has seen. These plays include West Side Story, Miss Saigon, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, The Sound of Music, Wicked, The Lion King, Les Misérables, Mamma Mia, and Mary Poppins. Renowned performers like Blondie, Diana Ross, Paris Opera Ballet, and the Bolshoi and Riverdance Stars have graced the venue stage. The Capitol Theatre is a subsidiary of Foundation Theatres.
The theatre is currently in excellent physical condition with a seating capacity of 2094 seats. The seating accommodations are divided in three, the stalls, dress circle and boxes.
The stall is the ground level. It is at the same level as the stage. The audience at the very front of the stall will get a view of the stage. The seats then begin to incline upward so that the audience gets an eye-level view of the stage. At the second level, there is the Dress Circle and the boxes. The dress circle is about 16.5metresfrom the stage. It is bound by a safety rail. The stalls and dress circles also have the hearing-loop feature which is available at designated seats.
They offer other services, including catering, hospitality etc. The venue has five bars and theatre foyers where you can enjoy a pre-show or mid-show cocktail or drink with snacks. The venue is known for its famous choc-tops. Whether it be a special occasion, birthday, work event, client hosting, internal or external, the venue provides a wonderful theatrical experience for you.
The Capitol Theatre is operating in line with guidelines of the NSW Health on Covid-19 currently. The venue is following a strict COVID Safety Plan. Visitors are expected to get familiar with the latest COVID-19 guidelines and updates and observe them strictly within the theatre.
